Worried about "break ins"

If I needed window bars I wouldn't live there!

I have several lights that are dusk to dawn and a motion sensor double flood along the driveway. I also have two signs that say "smile you're on candid camera" that you can easily see where you would ordinarily park the car at night. I was up last nite when a car came up the driveway, stopped and two guys got out and the floods came on. I just happened to be up getting a drink of waster and saw the whole thing and what was funny, was that they both looked around to see if they could see a camera and got PERFECT face pix of both of them and their license.
I believe that if you are gonna spend some money for cameras,you should get good ones. Not quite like the ones on an SR-71 that can see a golf ball on the green from 70,000 feet though.

I installed a few "video surveillance" signs up at the gate and also have a spartan go trail camera on a verizon service plan (From amazon). It takes time and motion photos and send them via email.

The plan cost about $20 - $28 a month. It takes 12 AA batteries and I replace twice per year (because of cold weather). Besides taking pics of people/license plates, it's good to see after a storm that everything initially appears ok.

Interesting to see all the critters that are around the location.

An alarm system in such a remote area is useless. By the time the cops get there, the thieves own your stuff. A lot of these thieves are repeat offenders. Cameras with an app for your phone or internet connection to your lap top would be useful for capturing them. They might be kids from the neighborhood or like you said some dopers. Once caught, they would be smart to stay away from your house. Keep valuables well hidden and out of sight. Most thieves want to get in and right out.

Truth be told this is correct. Security only stops the punks-professionals just laugh.

As the guy from WI states, living in the country is getting away from crime. I live in exurbia and don't lock my windows or doors. I have thousands of $$$ of tools and machines that could be taken. My neighbor watches out for me and I for him. I'm insured and don't lose any sleep. I have guns, knives, and handcuffs. I'll probably never need them.

I don't have guns, knives, and handcuffs but, the rest of this I agree with,,, mostly.

I guess I don't have anything valuable enough to lock in a safe. And, I also don't have good locks on my doors because any door can easily be kicked open. They would do more damage to the house breaking in then what they would get with the stuff they took.

I don't leave cash setting around. All they are going to get is the TV. It was about 500 bucks. Nothing else is worth taking. lol

A properly installed quality door is absolutely not "easily kicked open".

Homes tented for termites - complete with "Do Not Enter - Extremely Hazardous".....have been broken into and burglarized.

Has happened in more than just one jurisdiction - including to friends who had sold their house and were moving.

Can't think of anything more obvious than the totally enclosed (tented) house and signage warning of hazardous fumes inside!

The crime scene tape is silly - as well as not being appreciated by most PD's...:S
