It may seem like a bunch of money until you pay taxes on it. Then there is insurance, maintenance, salaries, utilities, waste disposal, water testing the list goes on.
The point is, you just don't get to stick the entire sum in your pocket.
I do wonder about how much Insurance would be. It could be quite high.
Lets say you own a farm in South Dakota about 30 to 70 miles from the Black Hills or Mt Rushmore. You make a living off of raising corn and soybeans. But, you have a few acres of pasture in your back yard. You have to pay taxes on it but, it is not ground that you can make farm income off of.
As a farmer you already have the equipment to do the maintenance to a gravel road to a few spots.
You don't have to pay any salaries. (I don't know why you would) .
You do have to pay for the electric that the RV's use. Electric is quite cheap in the midwest, though I don't know how much a day that would be honestly.
Waste disposal in the midwest is a burn pit or take it to the local landfill. I take a pickup load of garbage that I can't burn or recycle to my local landfill and it's under 20 bucks a pickup load. (13 bucks actually)
Most, but not all, places are Rural Water systems now. It's like city water so there is no testing. But, you do have to pay for it by the 1000 gallon increments. (I'm not sure how much a RV uses in water for a day.) Even if you are using a well you can test it yourself once a year and you are good to go. But, insurance might require more testing then that. I'm not sure.
No , you don't stick all that money in your pocket, I agree. But, some people are doing it.
I used to have bookmarked a site that listed places where you could camp in peoples backyard but, I lost it. I will see if I can find it back again.
