I change mine once a year whether it needs it or not. I'm right at 9,000 miles now with 40% showing on my new truck but my year is almost up so it's time. I service and detail all my vehicles during the winter months. Gives me something to do so I don't go nuts.
Exactly what I do.
It was easy on my Accord, of which I did confirm via UOA's, the last having 14k on the oil over the last year. Report said...go longer. Yeah...14k....go longer. No top offs. Same M1 filter. No special oil. It was Quaker State syn from Menards.
But I had a hard time doing this on a truck motor that see's towing duty. So after a full season and 6k miles this year, 4k of which were actual towing of the TT, the UOA came back with TONS of oil life remaining. M1 5w-30 & M1 filter...with over 12k miles on it.
No more oil changes before 10k or one year for this guy. Towing or not.
I applaud you for changing your way of thinking about oil changes. I also applaud you for confirming this with OA.
A lot of people on this forum think they need to change their oil just because of the way they feel. The news is, your engine does not care about the way you feel. The only way to "know for sure" whether or not your oil needs to be change is through OA.
OLM are very, very good now days and you and many others have confirmed that through OA.
If it's one thing that OA has taught me is there is a TON of good oil being thrown away.
