My VIP braking system has a charge line , through a diode, to keep the battery up.

I also have installed the Mopar wiring harness so there is no interaction with the MH and Jeep brake lights. The Mopar harness uses the 12 volt feed from the MH to light the jeeps lights.

I guess I will just keep towing the way I have always done with the Cherokee and remove the key and lock the door. The newer wranglers don't have steering wheel locks and I removed the steering wheel lock from the Cherokee so I should be good to go.

Does anyone that tows a Jeep Wrangler disconnect the battery when towing?

I don't need to remove a fuse when I tow my '13 Wrangler as my supplemental brake system takes care of that for me. I use US Gear's Unified Tow Brake system that isolates the brake light switch so that the towing vehicles lights and the Jeeps work as they should.

If the brake light switch is not isolated in the Jeep, the turn signals in the Jeep are overridden when the supplemental brakes are applied. Additionally, without a 12v charge line from the towing vehicle and isolating the brake light circuit, the towed vehicles battery can be depleted.

Folks that don't use supplemental brake systems won't have an issue with battery draw down or turn signal overrides.

I found that on page 548 item 15. New one for me, I never heard that mentioned here before. The outlets are marked for your needs. If the outlet cover has a battery symbol it is "hot" with the key off. If it has a key symbol it will only be hot with the key on. Mine tows with the key off and does not have a battery disconnect and has not weakened the battery using my RVI braking system.

Anyone with any other knowledge of why this is in the manual I would be interested. :h

2009 (I think) and newer don't require the key to be on, therefore a disconnect is unnecessary.

We towed our 4 door 2011 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara from new until just over a week ago. Here is why we stopped towing it. :E
