Xbox live?

Since I have unlimited everything on my straightalk phone for just under $50 a month I bought a wireless adapter for my xbox and installed foxfi on my phone to turn it into a wireless hotspot I use pdanet for my computer so I can have a wired version as it will charge my phone at the same time. 3G sucks for gaming. Go 4G.

A lot of us are switching over to Millenicom due to price, higher data limit, and the benefit of using the Verizon network. Millenicom is a reseller of Verizon, AT&T and Sprint data services. On the Verizon side, anywhere you can get a Verizon data connection, you can get a Millenicom data connection. Millenicom does not offer any phone plans, only data plans. Plus, NO TAXES and NO CONTRACT! When you sign up for the 69.99 Verizon MiFi plan, you pay 69.99 total!

Back to the OP's question... I am not sure how much data is transferred during gaming sessions, but I would sure be very careful when using any provider's plan because of the possibility of exceeding the data limits. I do know two people that love their games AND they love Netflix. Both of them have purchased TWO Verizon data plans from Millenicom, giving them each 40 GB of bandwidth a month.

That unlimited Millenicom 3G/4G plans look to be about the best situation out there for getting both high enough data rates and no caps for streaming of video movies when camping ... assuming their coverage is identical to Verizon's (since they use the Verizon cellular system).

However, I don't think it's convenient or inexpensive to start and stop their plans for use on RV camping trips. Unless you are a full-timer, it's a bit pricey to keep paying $69.99 per month when the RV is sitting in storage just so you can have your hotspot there for camping trips on and off throughout the year.

In our case that $69.99 every month would be in addition to the monthly charge for our home Internet access.

What I would like is a plan like Millenicom's Unlimited Plan that could be turned on and turned off conveniently over the Internet, as needed, for camping trips. Wishful thinking I guess.

I have Verizon 4G and it works great. But, with the 5GB limit online gaming, movies etc are not feasible.


Also, for those switching from 3G to 4G, keep an eye on your data usage ....While I don't believe that the 4G technology inherently uses more data, I found I tend to use more simply because it's faster and I can get to many more places in the same amount of time...less waiting :)

doxiemom11: what is your data rate on Millenicom?

Supposedly Millenicom uses the Verizon cellular system, so I guess Millenicom wants us to assume that everywhere you can get Verizon cell tower access you can get Millenicom access.

I wonder how literally true that is? Will a company contracting to ride piggyback on another company's cellular infrastructure ACTUALLY be allowed to have as good cellular coverage as the company owning the infrastructure? That doesn't seem like good contract writing to me.

If true, I'd really consider Millenicom because I love the Verizon system coverage using our Wilson cellular amplifier and Wilson rooftop cellular antenna when camping out in the middle of nowhere. What I don't like is Verizon's 5 gigabytes per month cap - or even their 10 or 20 gigabytes per month data caps. In fact, if Verizon had a 4G plan with, say, a 50 gigabytes per month cap or better yet unlimited data - I'd use them full time even here at home through my motorhome's hotspot (we store the motorhome in the backyard always hooked up anyway).

My current home Internet access is broadband, unlimited data, and is only $40 per month. American Internet providers need to wise up and start offering the prices, data speeds, and data caps (if any) that Europe enjoys. We watch a lot of Netflix content via our home's Internet and even a lot of data rich videos from the news networks over the Internet, so high data caps or none at all is the name of the game for us at home. I'd like close to the same in the RV.

Millenicom - you can get an unlimited plan for I believe $69.99 mo. They do have different plans with different allowances. We have one that provides 20g per month for a cheaper price. Not sure what all plans they have now as we have had ours for a couple of years. No contract -- billed monthly to a credit or debit card. So far no price increase in 2 years.

I use Verizon wireless 4G for my home internet. Its my only option other than satellite.
Their 4G coverage is pretty good in the areas I travel/camp. We take our internet with us when we camp.
I use a Cradlepoint router and verizon USB modem.
The 4G modems are usually backwards compatible to 3G, and Verizon was offering a reduced rate to switch to 4G. I saved $10/month by switching from 3 to 4.

About your online gaming. I think you may be unpleasantly surprised when you get the first bill because you went over your 5 Gig usage. You can upgrade to 10 Gig, but its costly.
I had to upgrade to 10 gig and we do not game or watch movies and were constantly going over 5 gig. You will be very surprised at how much data you use in a month. Every web site is loaded with content. For example: go to yahoo and mouse-over an ad. A video pops up and its playing before you can stop it.
My wife loves FB and Pin which are loaded with pictures.


Some providers are advertising unlimited data but they have poor coverage footprint and lacking on the data pipe servicing the backbone on their towers.
Although I haven't read their usage policy, I would be willing to bet they have a "fair use policy" which can/will slow your data speeds down to a crawl if you start gobbling up data watching your favorite show.

My opinion.
Unless the government steps in, I doubt we will see any unlimited cellular data plans that are worthwhile.

Our 3G data plan is only 5 gigabytes per month and is adequate for surfing and email. A 4G plan will not be any worse than this on a monthly data limit.

However and unfortunately, streaming of movies or playing games when camping cannot be done much at all with a monthly data cap of only 5 gigabytes. What I'd really like in our RV is an unlimited monthly data cap plan, like our broadband $40 per month home plan is. ;)
