So none of you were that woman who spent nine days on an Arizona desert road after running out of gas?:R I try not to run the tank that low, fuel gauges are notoriously unreliable. When it gets close to 1/4 I start looking for a stop. If it's a long walk between stations I fill at 1/2.
The fuel gauge is actually very accurate! probably the only gauge on the dash that is! if it`s off, its broke! - romoreExplorer IISo none of you were that woman who spent nine days on an Arizona desert road after running out of gas?:R I try not to run the tank that low, fuel gauges are notoriously unreliable. I give up. Why are people saying "Fuel Pump loves you" "it is your truck suck the bottom of the tank"? Please tell me you don't think the fuel pumps, fuel pickup tubes float. If you do I hate to tell you but brand new, old, car, truck anything fuel the inlets are already at the deepest most part of the tank. At the very first start it is sucking from the bottom of the tank for the life of the vehicle/motor.
So OP as long as you made it like someone said previously an inch is as good as a mile.
Happy RVing :-)
Modern vehicle electric fuel pumps are submersed in the tank and cooled by the fuel. Excess heat can lead to motor failure over time.
Actually, the pump is cooled by return fuel which bathes the pump. As long as the pump is pumping, it's being cooled.
Not when there is minimal amount of fuel in the tank! When it's that low all the fuel circulates faster which doesn't cool the pump as much. Less fuel=less cooling. Although it will not hurt the pump! - joshuajimExplorer II

At least now you know when the FUEL PUMP symbol comes on...
Roy Ken - thomasgunnarExplorerI actually ran out inches before the pumps once. I was towing at the time. Pretty close.

Passed 3 stations in last 30 miles.........
Then WHY suck the bottom of tank :H
Since I sucked 26.4 gallons out of a 26 gallon tank, don't ya think it sucks the bottom of the tank all the time. In addition, it's not like the old days of steel tanks.
Nevermind......it's your new truck suck the bottom of fuel tank all you want to do.
