First thing you should do IMHO is get an adapter and a 100 pound cylinder or three!
Those little cylinders don't work well, not enough surface area. You need a bigger cylinder, and lean it over some so you have way more surface area.
BTW, those little thermostatic heat strips designed to keep pipes from freezing work way better than a heating pad. Get a long one and wrap it around and around, then put something around the tank to insulate it and keep the warmth in. Be sure to put the heat strip low, it's the liquid you want warmed.
