My wife and I traveled all over the Rockies and Cascades with a 30 year old Toyota RV with a 22Re engine. Age does not mean much as long as the vehicle is maintained properly. Remember to downshift early and keep your rpm's up. If you don't have a tach, get one. Drive by the tach not the speedometer.
I keep hearing about people with their foot to the floor and not going anywhere. They let their rpm's drop and got into a power deficit that they can't get out of. I passed many V8 powered motorhomes with my 120 hp 4 banger. The high rpm's are noisy but I got up every hill that I encountered, including the Bighorns, Going To The Sun Road and the Beartooth Highway.
