Yellowstone with an older Tow Vehicle...Would you?

As long as it has been maintained I would have no issues what so ever taking it on a long trip. I will be taking a older then that truck to Alaska.

I'm retired so even if I would have a breakdown I would just get it fixed or replaced. Every single truck that I have bought new and sold is still running around McPherson the oldest being a 84 Dodge with a 318. I do have family that trades vehicles every two years. You have to decide what you're comfortable with.

Granted my truck (1992) is Diesel, stick shift and 100% sensor and computer free but we drove it to Yellowstone last year with our Toy Hauler in tow from San Diego. We did 550 miles a day, passed countless "new" trucks on the side of the road with the hoods up and went thru Vegas and St. George both at 100+ degrees with the hammer down and the AC blasting.

I saw a much older Chevy square body in Yellowstone from Texas too.

2006 is old? My 2001 F150 did fine loaded to the max rating. Any gasser with fuel injection is not old.

Just came back from Glacier, always about 1000 heavy, and the engine did fine. A couple 11% grades, but that just meant I started behind the semis. :-)

Shoot. I'm looking at trucks exactly like yours to be our NEW tow vehicle!

No problem if you have the vehicle maintained. I drove a 20+ year old Class A out to Yellowstone from MN. We had to install the gas tank, again, when the holding straps broke. The old 383 got us out there and back. It was a great trip!

go for it, they (and you) will love the trip. Heck my old 2004.5 is now our son's and it has 160K miles on it and neither he nor I would hesitate for a second about a long trip. Opps, he takes it on long trips quite often....

The 8.1 is a workhorse, and the mountains going through from the east to glacier, yellowstone, etc. aren't that high. the continental divide passes in montana are in the 5-6K range, with decent 6% grades. there are a few that are higher, and going from billings to yellowstone, you probably don't want to take that pass into yellowstone, pretty windy and around 10K elevation. But you can easily find routes you want that won't be any struggle.

I'd be more concerned about the wear and tear of the children on a long trip.

no one can answer that but you. you know the upkeep and condition you keep it in.
age is only a number. if it in good condition go for it.

The last time we took our '04 excursion to California it had over 150,000 and on the scales with the TT we were at about 16,500 lb. As said above, I worry about our age more then our vehicles age.
