The ones going in MN by us have been good. Most of them ... The design the OP referenced is different than the typical roundabout.
Getting rid of the high speed t-bones is what roundabouts are all about. There may be as many accidents but they are at a lower speed and not at a 90 degree angle. Those two factors substantially decrease the severity of both property damage and human injury. Both very good outcomes.
I think roundabouts have their place. Not sure about the design the OP referenced.
