I use the Craftsman snap type. I bought it when Sears sold all Craftsman wrenches with a Life Time Warranty. My first one failed in about 4 years without that much use. Brought it back to Sears and the clerk denied that it had a life time warranty. They don't today but when I bought it they did. I just happened to have the Sears Tool Catalog with me of the year I bought the first one. Lifetime warranty in that book. Clerk still tried to deny my warranty claim. Got the store manager involved. He too tried to deny it until I showed him the Sears Tool Catalog of the year I bought the wrench. They finally gave me a new replacement and I also got a hand written Life Time Warranty on the new one from the store Manager.
I am very careful with mine and have now owned the new one for several years without any problems. However, I recently had my tires rotated at Costco and I happened to walk up to where they were working on my truck right at the time they were torqueing the nuts. I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. The service tech was slamming the torque wrench to get the snap. I didn't say anything at the store but I re-torqued the lug nuts when I got home. They varied all over the place by over 10 ft lbs. I intend to have a serious conversation with the Costco Tire store Manager and inform him of what I observed. That could cause some serious problems.
