- BumpyroadExplorerI somebody is that anal about their tail light brightness, I would suggest getting a set of magnetic lights and put them on the trunk of their car and plug into the 4 flat connector.

the original bulbs should be adequate, but if you want to throw money away, have at it. I think I have replaced a dozen at most old style bulbs over the years.

Actually the school of thought I have read is to use the same color bulb as the lens to maximize color and brightness. Below is per Super Bright's website.
which color to use - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIThis is what I replaced the incandescent units with. I could have simply replaced the lamps with LED's but this was FAR BETTER!

Dozens of online vendors claim their lamps are universal fit for 3016 - 3017. This is like saying there is a universal fit tire.
Super bright LEDs cost more but they are not thieves and their products are good quality Cummins12V98 wrote:
I changed out the rectangular BARGMAN OE units for exact same but LED on a 02 AVION, zero issues towing with 98 RAM. Amazing part people actually could see when I wanted over and would move!

I'm with you Cummins. The original lights on my 1986 popup were always dim and hard to see. I changed to LED lights and it was a world of difference. - opnspacesNavigator IIIThat's a big it depends.
If you are talking about changing taillights on a trailer and leaving the tow vehicle alone then yes they should work fine. The stock tow vehicle lights already provide enough resistance to flash. Or if they are LED the required flasher is already installed.
If you are talking about a class A B or C which has normal incandescent lights; You will have probably have to add a new flasher unit in addition to the new LED taillights. - LwiddisExplorer III'm not happy with my replacement LED blubs but I also added a strip light from eTrailer to each side. The strips work well. I'll try red blubs as rrupert advises.
