The way to address long-term charging period alternator over voltage to a chassis AGM is to mount a large Shottkey rectifier inline with the chassis charge lead line. Around a .3 to .4 volt voltage drop without sacrificing a whit of max amperage potential. eBay 300 - 500 amp Shottkey Rectifier. They have to be mounted on an aluminum finned heat sink. Both rectifier need't be used unless extremely high amperage levels are expected.
this measure can be incorporated on any device that charges batteries. Oooooo it's not necessary to outright reject a brand of battery because the lowest float rate is higher than manufacturer's specs. And no a reduction of bulk rate voltage limit will not damage an AGM battery.
Flooded batteries are a totally different animal. They will sulfate 100 times faster if undercharge.
For instance a good brand of AGM will never need to be "coaxed" with top charging.
