thus previous discussions of having both an autoformer and a muti-function surge protector, and the debate which goes in line first.
I think the choice in part depends on the type of RV park you habituate. If I was always staying in ones with low voltage I might opt first for the autoformer. if fluctuating voltages are present, the MFSP. but I wouldn't want a surge protector that didn't have an override so I could still get juice for some purposes even if there was low voltage.

The reason I asked is the term has become more than confusing. A line voltage correction unit is vastly different than something that screams to itself "Incoming!" and disconnects the rig from shore power.

Does Hughes for instance provide specifications for transient voltage line disturbance protection? CORRECTION of line harmonic distortion?

HOW and WHEN does a unit "protect" against out of specification limit voltage. How is "improper voltage" defined?

Improper Connection Protection is yet another category.

1. Improper connection protection

2. Improper voltage protection (?) or correction (?) Protection can mean disconnection of service.

3. Transient voltage protection. No standards are realized.

4. Harmonic distortion correction or protection (disconnect)?

The ones being discussed provide more than just 'surge' protection (voltage spikes from power supply and /or lightning---L-N, L-N, L-G, L-L and N-G.).
They also provide detection/protection of HI/LO voltage, Reverse Polarity, Open Neutral, Open Ground, AC frequency deviations and 240V.

according to my dictionary, "sudden increase".

just be sure it is a multi-function surge protector, $250 and up. not the $90 special.

Since low voltage is the biggest cause of air conditioner failure, consider a Triplite autoformer for that single circuit.
