1000 watt Honda gen

saw in our classified ads on FB there is 1000 w Honda for sale. still has the tags on it but I am not sure if he just left the tags on or it's new. How much do you guys think I should offer him. He did not say how much he wants for it.
  • My Honda 1000 started to burn oil, it did not last very long, in that the smokey exhaust fumes became too unpleasant for a camping environment,
  • I don't think its ever a matter of which is better a 1K or a 2K. That's why they make both,....which ever one fits the bill. In my case,...weight, and physical size means everything, so I love the 1K. If it won't work for you, that's why they made the 2 3 and 4Ks. actually, I have a 1k and a 5,5K.
Fuel problems ??? I don't have any, nor have I ever had any.
  • We should all have RJ supply us with fuel for our Honda EU generators, then. Or it may mean that RJ doesn't know how to clean a carb on an EU also. ;-)

Better yet, RJ should have a sticky made on how to keep a Honda EU generator running without needing a carb cleaning... Place that sticky right underneath the existing one.
  • Niner, here a good deal for you to stock up on brand new carbs for your 1000,....one for every day of the week

I think that's like 8x the cost of a can of Gumout Carb Cleaner at Pep Boys next door to me? Easier to carry spare main jets and soak one while the other is installed and swap out as needed.

I'd hold out for a 2K generator myself.

X2 I camp with a large group of people in the desert. Every one that bought a 1k unit ended up with a 2k unit soon after, and there were several.

I agree. We own two Eu2000s and two Eu1000s but when we go dry camping the Eu1000s are my choice. The second generator is only a backup which I have never needed.

With respect to Eu1000 carb issues, the only time I had a problem with either of mine was when I left gas in it for a year with the original Stabil. Now I use Stabil Marine in all the gasoline that goes in my small gas engines. I drain the tank and carb when I do not plan on using the generator for a month and have had no more carb issues.

  • We have a Honda 1000i since 2003 and use it to run our 15 amp battery charger to charge our 4 12 volt batteries if we boondock. This has been 3 times so the 1000 sits in our fifth for an emergency. I use non ethanol gas and 1 oz of seafoam per gallon for all of our small engines. Each August I run them dry and refill with the new gas. NO problems. I have not used our snow blower since 2000 and it starts on the first or 2nd pull. works for us this way

I will say a 2000 is usually the best of the two.
