My definition is when amps start to taper below the source rating is the start of absorption. This transition will happen sooner at lower voltage.
I think you are splitting hairs on this voltage sense issue. If you lose 1/10th volt it is not much different to care. If you are losing a full volt then you need a wire upgrade anyway. Long distance installations excepted and do not apply to this discussion of a portable charging system.
