Let's take my big chargers -- voltage limited.
Voltage at battery terminals instantly goes to set point and remains there?
What is THAT called?
Absorbsion?
I call it Saturated Charging.
The fastest safe way to charge a battery. Yes a battery may live seven percent longer if amperage is limited to 20% of ampere hour capacity.
While consuming 300% to 400% more fuel over it's lifespan.
Forget charging at home -- this is only important when charging from a generator.
Let's throw another fly in the ointment.
Charging via prime mover, alternator to battery charger then to battery
Versus
Charging via prime mover, to Rectified alternator with voltage regulator then to batteries.
Do the math on efficiency correction...is an alternator more efficient than a rectified alternator? Forget the converter for now. It is a loser.
In my world, about 90% of the power consumed is DC. How about yours?
On generator power only an A/C demands use of an AC power source. A 5 minute coffeemaker or seven minute microwave nuke does not demand direct AC power. Too short of minutes used per day.
A similar fate awaits folks who believe they can heat their rig with a generator.
With fuel now re-approaching four dollars per gallon a person in their right mind does not assume battery charging at 20% of ampere hour rate.
Grab those calculators!
