I have a portable Dometic CDF-11, the smallest size they make, about $350 from Amazon. It has been a great addition to my travel kitchen.
Pro points: cools quickly and stays cold for many hours even if turned off, uses very little power, works on 12V or 110V, has automatic shutoff for low battery (several setting options on this)
Con points: It does not seem to want to cool to a temperature more than 50 degrees colder than ambient temperature. Very tiny capacity; make sure that your desired contents will fit.
If you don't need a freezer often, I agree with the idea of a very good ice chest plus dry ice.
