What do you have now and what are the planned up grades? I think 24v could be better in a few ways. Less voltage difference for a MPPT controller meaning less heat. Less voltage left on the table in PWM.
With 1K I'd want a pretty good controller. That's a lot of power AND a lot of heat too. I don't remember the Outback and Midnite controllers being that much more than my TS-MPPT-60.
12 or 24 volt, a array that size means a pretty good sized bank. I'd make sure the batteries I had could handle the charging rate the array can put out. Lifelines can suck up anything the array could put out and chuckle, not all batteries are like that.
Higher voltages up top will affect wire size coming down but you will still need something pretty healthy between the controller and the bank.
Sounds like it's gonna be a nice system.
