12 Volt Outlets

I would be cautious using anything that draws more than a few AMPS using the cigarette light type 12V receptacles. The plugs will get hot on you and melt down the plug and probably the socket. My trailer only came with the one 12VDC receptacle with the antenna panel.

I wired in several 12VDC connections from a BLUE SEA 12VDC fused SUBPANEL to run several of my 12VDC toys I wanted to run...

Most of my items are hard-wried to the 12VDC sub panel. I did install a couple of high quality 12VDC Receptacles with matching 12VDC plugs and these seem to run pretty cool up to 8-10AMPS of current.



One table top location I use one of these USB CELL PHONE type receptacles to be able to charge cell phones etc which is pretty neat...


Whatever you use be sure to feel of the plugs/adapters to make sure they are not getting hot on you. If the connections are poor quality they will definitely get hot enough to melt down things...

12VDC appliances was not a good deal for me. I bought a 10-cup DC coffee maker once at a local truck stop and it took around 5-6 hours to brew a pot of coffee... If you want to do these things install an proper size PSW INVERTER and only use 120VAC appliances. My Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffee maker will make me a 10-cup pot of fresh brewed bean coffee in 5-minutes and pours up into a thermos server and then totally shuts down. Perfect for using around battery systems. Only uses power for about five minutes.

GPS, phones, MiFi and 12V blanket for the cat. Have 3:1 splitter. Keep 12V plugs and cords for 2 cell phones in the toad.

My rig didn't have any 12V outlets. I installed one for my WiFiRanger.

I just finished installing a charging station from CW that has both 12v and USB outlet. Ran 14ga wire to a spare breaker in the panel. Use it for 12v fans, air compressor, phone charger, etc.

I have plug in DC meter which monitors battery/converter - also plug in an 12 volt electric fan on occasion.

I put one next to the bed so I can use my Cpap while boondocking.

I went so far as to install a 12v outlet on each side of the bed so my wife and I can charge our phones at night. On the dash I use a GPS and a second charger for my phone while driving. I do have a 300 watt inverter, but it is hard wired on its own circuit. It runs the laptop while driving if the kids want to use it.
