Ancient proverb: "It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness."
Updated version: "It is a lot more fun to curse the darkness while cranking up the floodlights."
Sounding (as usual) like Pollyanna, I am not thrilled that the government is taking away my choices. But I am delighted by the evolution of the warm-white screw-in LED bulb for home use -- it is far more durable than the old incandescents, and the color temp is great.
And you have to wonder whether the mass-market LED bulb would have progressed as fast as it has, were it not for regulatory pressure to reduce wattage. Maybe it would have -- no way to know.
