I first got a taste of this mentality, when I visited several school chums...
Who found themselves living in Hippie Communes on the Russian River and Central California coast.
Eyebrows shot up when I politely declined their offer of refreshments and recreation. I could barely suppress a smile.
Oh it was back to Mother Earth all right. Basket weaving, knitting, doing guitar strumming for donations. They chopped their own wood and grew vegetables which they traded.
They could not possibly survive on that kind of activity -- so I asked my friends "What gives"?
A combination of group investments of disability checks, welfare, unemployment and food coupons augmented their lifestyle. I remained silent. I have not seen either friend in 45 years.
Peer pressure, plus words from the Big Momma and the Big Pappa, governed these groups -- when to get up when it was lights-out, and what vegetarian fare was on for the night...
The mentality has soared to state government. Moonbeam Brown and Linda Rheostat were "partners" in counter-culture. He made the newspapers sleeping on the floor, patchouli oil, swinging with "Blew By You". The governor's son no less...
I want authentic conservation. Not -no response- to multiple letters I sent, the kind that cost money, suggesting the planting of Weeping Willow trees along California's vast delta system to do two things, increase the strength of fragile earth works a hundred times over and offer one of the premier waterfowl flight ways in the world, a tangible improvement.
Likewise, my ideas of offering wealthy property owners, tax incentives to create redds on coastal streams for spawning salmon. An ideal redd can improve salmon hatching by a thousand times or more. No answer. No response. Government only responded to chants, and slogans from the left.
As sure as I breathe, if you are 40 years of age or younger, you WILL SEE, you WILL EXPERIENCE determined attempts to ban recreational vehicles. Not outlaw THEM but do it intrinsically, taxes, tariffs, restrictions, etc. How would you like to pay a thousand dollar premium on your annual license plates in order to "be fair about carbon issues"?
The overwhelming majority of rams and ewes will dismiss this advice as being "alarmist". Fodder for public belittling. They will hop because the individual in front of them hopped.
When something is deemed "not in conformity" to existing theory, either ban it or tax it. Spend tens of millions of dollars on abstract immigration issues, anything but address genuine issues intelligently.
Phooey...where are the rolling papers?
