12v Battery Bank in Parallel with 6v Bank

Short version

I need a quick fix to get thru this summer boondocking.

I know what I am considering doing is bad but I don’t know how bad & need input on what will be happening to batteries when mixing them this way. During charging, during Boondocking and how bad I will screw up batteries and/or other problems I will create.

Putting in parallel
2 Interstate SRM-24 Marine/RV Deep Cycle and
1 Exide 31 MDC Nautilus Deep Cycle/Marine
In parallel with
2 in series Energizer 6 volt Premium Golf Cart Batteries

Your help & advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Alan

  • Camping with them all in series/parallel is no big deal, but the possible harm is from undercharging any of them for too long so they get sulfated. The real question is how do you recharge your batteries--is it enough?

I did a couple years with five batteries in a bank. Two older and one newer 27DC 12s with two 6s. Lately I have had six in a bank. Two 6s , two 6s, and two 12v T-1275s. No problems from banking them.

With three 12s and two 6s, I did it as two big 12s with the three 12s as one big 12 in parallel with the two 6s as the other 12.
  • Add 200 watts of solar and I would say you are good to go.
Otherwise what are you charging the battery with?
