Some people (including the videos) make something so simple, so hard !!
Install the 1 lb bottle on the USD large cyl in the evening.
In the morning, remove the 1 lb bottle....then tell me the bottle is not full !! So simple its unreal. The bottle is "always" too full, so I bleed a little off,.....that's it.

I have filled many hundreds since 1979.

not being full, means you didn't utilized the best filling procedure. making sure you vent the pressure, just like when a regular tank gets filled. that's what the schrader valve is for, and it's simple to use that. In fact, if your not careful, it's easy to overfill.

Or, just pay $10 for a true certified refillable 1lb bottle with a real vent you open and close with an allen wrench. I have yet to have one of those leak. stop filling when liquid propane comes out.

refill one of these a few times and you've paid for it.

In many cases a bigger tank is a good alternative. but for things like a portable lantern, the 1lb tanks are nice, easy to move the lantern around. Same with my portable patio heaters.

After one buys an adaptor, caps to seal leaky cans, and a pair of curved forceps... Seems better to just get a proper hose and a small tank, and forego the extra trouble of playing around with flammable gas.

Some things just aren't worth messing around with, IMHO.

Besides the adapter, you need a pair of curved jaw forceps.

there should be absolutely no OIL in a propane tank if it has been filled properly. Propane has no oil added to it.

They don't purposely add it, but it's there. The oily residue, called "heavy ends", is a byproduct of the refining process, and it's been fouling LP regulators forever. Mr. Heater makes a small inline filter for use with their heaters to avoid the issue.

the flame king refil station is worth the $ IMHO. very good valve and it will work with regular cylinders as well

Thanks for this, just ordered one!

Anyone know of a cap to prevent leakage? A regular valve would work, but would be bulky. It seems to me a deadhead adapter (with proper seal) could fit inside a reasonably sized cap. Bleeding any leaked pressure could be an issue, though?
