If you managed to damage the original gasket (which is pretty tough material), that bulb seal won't last a month.
Re the longevity of the bulb seal, I'm assuming you make that statement based on first-hand experience. I've had rubber bulb seal installed on an outside aluminum box on my truck for years and it's held up just fine - and the bulb seal is compressed very much.
