1964 Dodge D100 steering problem

The old beast was my Parents Camper truck in the 60's and 70's
When they passed away I got it going after sitting for 14 years and gave it to my Daughter about 18 years ago.
I keep it going for her when I visit the mainland but this steering
problem has me baffled even though I do know which end of a wrench to use most of the time.
The steering (not power) has become very loose and you had better be hanging on when you hit a bump.
I tried to take it to local shops here in California and no one would even look at it.

Anyone have any suggestions?? or a source for parts ??

Aloha Leon
  • What is the steering like when not moving over bumps
Could be the worm gear in the steering box is worn out
Most have an adjustment screw built into them
Still might need to replace it
I moved from Indiana to Calif in a truck like that back around 1978
Does it have the slant six engine
  • I believe that truck has a I-beam axle, the king pins are likely worn out and need to be rebushed. That takes special tools and knowledge. Try some of the hot rod shops.
