1985 Coachmen 24' Class A - Simple Newbie Question

I need to know what the R/S switch does.. I know it has something to do with the electrical system. I also "think" is has something to do with combining the Chassis and House battery ( could be wrong about that). Can anyone confirm what it's for and how it works? I think I drained my Chassis battery because I messed with it.

It's a toggle switch that sits centered, can be pushed to the "R" or the "S" but it springs back to center. Also the R and the S have a lightening bolt in between them.

The owners manual for this model is terrible and I can't find anything about it through google.

Please help!! I want to throw this battery back in and hit the road but I don't want to risk killing the battery again.

  • I agree with Dusty. In storage (S) it disconnects the battery, but beware, it may not disconnect everything from the battery. In normal operation just leave it in Run.

You can check this by unplugging the RV from shore power, Press the S, and try the lights. The lights should not come on.
  • It sounds like the "S" is for storage and "R" for run, meaning when you are using your RV.
That switch opreates a latching relay, it only needs a momentary bit of electricty to work. It disconnects/connects the house batteries.
