That may be fine for installing the timing set, but it you try to install the distributor thinking that is cylinder 1 tdc, you will have the dizzy out of time 180 degrees. Timing gear marks both at 12:00 is tdc on a chevy v8.
Been there, done that, hsd to pull a distributor and reset it, because I incorrectly thought 6 at cam and 12 at crank was tdc.
