Cougar, yes, technically you're correct, and I think I misunderstood your point. Notice I didn't state that the 6 and 12 marks indicated #1tdc, just that it would be unusual to assemble otherwise. I guess because I never considered stabbing the distributor based on the timing gear marks vs going by #1tdc threw me off a little.
Also, I shouldn't have assumed you were recommending installing gears at 12 and 12, but were just pointing out true locations for #1tdc. Thanks for the diagram as I now understand your reasoning.
