2- 6 volts batteries

Never had or wanted 2 6 volt batteries but now we have this setup.

I have a viair 12 volt air compressor. My question is how to connect the clips to use the compressor, I am thinking a red to one battery and a black to the other???? chevman 2021 Jayco white hawk TT
  • If your air compressor has alligator clips you attach pos to pos of one batt and neg to neg of other battery. You made a 12v battery bank by putting twin 6v into series.

    YEP....
That way you get 12VDC and draw is from both 6Vs

This could work or might not depending on which posts you connect to.

    Basic setup:
    - The ground (negative) cable from the rig will attach to battery 1 Negative post.
    - Battery 1 positive will connect to Battery 2 negative.
    - Battery 2 positive will connect to the positive cable to the rig.

You connect posts that have the cables coming from the rig. If in doubt, put a multimeter on the posts to find which combination has 12 volts.

Simply put I will draw an ASCII picture

    -{6v}+~-{6V}+12 volts

so your black lead to the - on the left in this drawing
    the Red to the +12

(The "~" sign in the drawing is a jumper wire)

    That easy

And though they are indeed a pair of six volt batteries when you are lugging them outside the RV. Think of them as a SINGLE 12 volt when installed. for that is what they are..

Many questions like "Can I replace just one?" are answered if you think of them as a single battery (Can you replace just half a 12 volt battery?

    See how that works

Can they be "Different" (Makes sizes ages) Woudl you want that a half and half 12 volt battery?
