Before you decide the inverter is toast, I suggest some troubleshooting. Same advice others have given. Take a multimeter and measure the voltage at the inverter input terminals while your microwave is running off of it. You may need two people to do this since someone has to read the meter during the few seconds that it works. Any other way to measure battery voltage during this experiment would work, but directly at the inverter input leads is the best. If voltage readings drop to below the inverter's low voltage cutoff, then that is the reason your inverter is cutting out and it is not malfunctioning. Consult the inverter manual to see what this low voltage cutoff is. The new batteries may have more storage capacity, but may not be able to deliver the big heavy draw that your old batteries did. A new inverter with the same level of low voltage cutoff will behave the same way, so you really should investigate this before buying a new inverter.
