What is the exact model of your inverter/charger? Some have little resets by their 120v outlets. Some have 120v hard wired sub-panels. You seem to be having a transfer switch problem but then some have the external transfer switch and others have an internal switch to go "pass through" 120v on shore power or gen.
First step of course is with your multimeter, confirm there is 12v at the inverter's DC input terminals in case the battery connection has been lost (there should be a huge fuse on the positive DC wire to the battery--is it ok?)
