2004 Terry Dakota floor rotted

Bottom side of floor wet and has now rotted the 3/16 wood that was laminated to Styrofoam, area is about 4 ft at rear of trailer between frame rails.Anybody had luck repairing this type of floor, was told to install 3/4 plywood to bottom side and add support rails between frame under plywood. Then locate any leaks and repair?

  • We had the same problem with our Hybrid TT. One of the outside compartments wasn't sealed at the bottom from the factory and leaked. The floor was rotted from the front of the trailer about 8 feet back. I pulled up the vinyl flooring, removed all wood that had any water damage and pulled up all the foam insulation. I replaced the foam and the wood. I went with 1/4" Oak plywood and 1" thick styrofoam insulation.

I got weather treated 2x4s and painted them black. I then bolted them to the main frame, being sure they were pushed up as high as they'd go to give extra support to the new weaker floor. Four years later the floor is still as sturdy as it was after making the repairs. I used 2x4s to keep the weight down. It is a 3 bunk hybrid and pretty heavy to begin with.
