2006 Starcraft 14 R/T Pop-Top question

Well, we completed our first RV trip with great success. From Yellowstone to Devil's Tower & Mt Rushmore on to Moab (Arches & Canyonlands) to Zion and the Grand Canyon north rim. Even Hoover Dam. All systems worked flawlessly and after 5233 miles, I feel like a veteran!

I have but one question...due to health reasons, the only part of set-up/tear-down that is difficult for me is the raising of the camper top. Have any of you fellas installed an electric winch or some sort of electric-assist on yours? If so, I'd appreciate any tech advice.

Thanks, Chris
  • Thanks again Eric. I will give it a try with my 18v Milwaukee 1/2 " drill.

  • The proper 1/2" drill set up will crank that roof up and set the stabilizers with no problem. Hold on tight! Those drills have a tremendous amount of torque. I had a permanent mounted motor on my Starcraft 3612 and it was actually a POS. Convenient, though.
  • Sorry...didn't know there was a specific forum I should've used.

Thanks for the tip Eric. I'll give it a try but I had hoped to find a more permanent solution such as replacing the stock winch with a 12v electric.
Also, while I'm sure the idea would work well for the stabilizers, the power needed for the roof is far greater. I have no difficulty with the stabilizers, just the roof.

  • Hopefully a mod will move this. In the meantime, the easiest solution would be a handheld, cordless drill with the Socket Genie attached.

  • probably should be asking this question in the Folding Trailers Forum here, since your issue is popup-specific.
