Any help appreciated. I recently let the house battery get too low on voltage. In the process, 1 fuse blew. I've since recharged the house battery and it's currently sitting at 12.2V. The only 12V gear that seems to work, though, are the entry steps; fridge, water pump, interior lights all are off UNLESS I plug in to 110AC.
I measured the output of the converter and it's putting out 13.7V, remeasuring battery still shows 12.2 so something isn't connecting somewhere. I've rechecked all fuses - both near the house batteries and at the main AC breaker. All breakers were OK but I also opened and reclosed them.
Given my luck, I was planning to bring the rig out today - I can leave the generator running all day but I'm really hoping there's another button or fuse somewhere that's not obvious that will fix my problem. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!
Running the generator will be useless since it powers the converter/charger through the 120v,ac, circuit. Running the MH engine would allow the alternator to charge the batteries. You should see 14.4+ volts at the House-battery terminals.
The problem is either the switch from shore-power use to self-contained, or your solenoid is not allowing the house-batteries to get connected.
Some thinks to note:
Plugging in will allow the 12v circuit to work but not charge the batteries if solenoid failing (yours working this way currently per your description).
Alternator bypasses the solenoid so charging should be seen.
Since you saw no increase from H-bat. reading of 12.2 volts (60% charge) and the converter/charger output 13.7 volts at test, it again shows the H-bat. are not connected.
You need to check all connections at the house-batteries, including the ground (battery connection and frame). Also check connections on converter too. The converter/charger has one or two fuses to be checked.
A low battery does not blow a fuse. What wires were you messing with?
What fuse blew? Shorts, loose connections, or someone poking around the wires causes a fuse to blow.
