The slide should be able to operate from the converter with no battery. Our slide would operate from the converter or the battery or the umbilical, seperately. You may have a bad switch or a bad slide control box. I'd check and see if you have voltage to the switch and then voltage from the switch to the slide control box while pressing the button.
