I completely disagree that even 1 yr old gas will give any kind of a problem.
But what in the world does that have to do w/ the carb leaking gas ??
But another trick that almost always fixes a needle valve leaking,....
Get it running, then shut off the fuel supply till it dies.
Then prime the pump till it quits pumping. That process has a very good chance of washing any foreign material out of the needle and seat that is probably causing it to leak. Hopefully it will be good when you restart it.
