Since you really don't know the history, concerning possible twist/damage, you can't blame the manufacturer. Like mentioned, you purchased used, no manufacturer's warranty. I would also suspect that original owner sold it, due to this issue. Unless you had a written statement from seller, saying everything works properly, little chance of recourse there.
I'd suggest talking with the independent service, that said it is twisted, to get an estimate of proper repair. If you can find a good mobile repair person to look at it, for a second opinion, and possible repair/estimate, you will have a better idea of how to proceed.
