220 Volt mishap
I went to plug in my RV inside my parents shop my dad had wired. The outlet is a 220 volts with three prongs. Something similar you would plug in a welder or compressor. I used the 30 amp RV receptac...

Based on the thread and the picture, I think it would be wisest to hire an electrician to install the outlet for you. I'm in no way against doing things yourself, even electrical work, but it needs to be done properly and safely. This is neither.
That is NOT 240 volts. To get 240volts {in the USA}, you must have TWO different phases. IE the black leg in the panel box and the red leg. The smaller 12 gage wire is rated at 25 amps if it is common THHN wire. There are 12 gage wires that can handle more amps.The code book states it to be used on 20 amp wiring in most cases but. His rewired outlet , while not conventional, will work just fine.
