2800 to 3000 watt inverter generator

Hi all,

If you were going to buy a single generator in the 2800 to 3000 watt "class" what would you pick and why would you choose it?

I forgot to mention it must be electric start.

  • That remote would be quite a nice luxury!

I wonder if that 500w boost from battery is thermally limited in the inverter electronics, or just not wanting to run down the little starting battery.

  • I also like the ability to use a remote control with it as well.

Funny thing about the Yamaha. I was sitting in my truck bed with it running on 3/4 load. Its noise was completely drowned out by a rattletrap open-framed generator 100-150 feet away. Even more funny, the power coming out is usually cleaner than some CGs.
  • Probably a Yamaha similar to This. I LOVE the feature that uses the starting battery to give 10 second boosts to inverter output for starting motors. 3500w equivalent output from a 3000w unit.

But full disclosure I am biased as a Yamaha guy, even though the Hondas are very nice as well. I still have one Yamaha left - bored and stroked to 3.4l.

  • 3000 honda inverter for me

it can actually sit under a picnic table running while anyone can sit at the table and hold a normal conversation....it is simply that quiet.

Best $$ I have yet to spend on a genny!!!
  • I am not sure if a built in genset like an Onan would work. The OP had a Boliy, but it would not fire up come cold temperatures.

I would agree the Onan would be the best of all worlds. Were I keeping my TT, I'd probably consider flipping the axles, having the genset installed underneath with a 25 gallon gas tank, then have it wired in via an ATS. Add to that an inside start switch and a controller so the generator fires up if the batteries are low.
  • Does the MH have space and provision for an optional built in generator? If so I would get what the oem generally installed. Probably a small onan that starts with the push of a button. I would also add an automatic start based on battery voltage.
  • The Champion 3100 is not electric start. I like my Yamaha 3000 iSE, but I would recommend the 3000SEB for the 500 watts for 10 seconds, good enough to overcome locked rotor current from an A/C.
  • Champion 3100i inverter generator. Not as quiet as a Honda 3000 but not as heavy or expensive either.

Considering I don't think I will even gas up our Champ this next trip, I don't see a upgrade for me any time soon.
  • I would choose Champion's new 3100 watt inverter because, after having (2) Champion 2000 watt inverters, I can attest to the value/quality ratio.
