3 axles... Torflex or springs.

I'm looking at having a 32' 3 axle gooseneck cargo trailer built with 6k or 7k axles and I found a local builder I like but he recommends slipper springs instead of Torflex for 3 axle trailers. I've shopped and some mfgrs use Torflex and some use springs on 3 axle trailers. I know the rubber in Torflex doesn't last forever and I'd always be able to work on springs myself. Is Torflex a good idea on a 3 axle trailer and are they worth the extra money?
I've only had one tiny 5000 lb 5er with Torflex and it rode like a dream but I'm not sure if that was from the axles or because it was so light. I've never had 2 similar size/weight trailers to really compare Torflex to springs. TIA! Craig

  • Weight will be evenly distributed with torsion axles unless you tow seriously out of level.

Check with high end trailer makers like Airstream and Featherlight. Contact Dexter and see what they have to say.

I have no personal experience with a triple torsion but on tandems they are wonderful.
  • I agree w/ the leaf springs to equalize the weight. If you need 3 axles, then you want the weight evenly distributed.
