We did this for a couple of the transfer switches. (We have three). We did it because we run an ongoing beta test bed for inverters, converters etc so it is kind of a necessity for quick in and out installations etc. Use proper grade connectors and receptacles if you do this. It will work fine and be a good back up plan.
