- wa8yxmExplorer IIIGoing that long I'd go with heavier cord 8 or even six ga.. I think the electrical shop recommended 8Ga for my 70 foot custom cord.. Worked too.
When the power company failed me I ran that cord from the custom outlet hiding in my basement to the custom outlet on the back of the house. Fired up the ONAN, went inside and flipped some switches, Lights, Computers, Refreigerator/freeezer/kitchen FURNACE!!!!!! All that custom and add on electrical stuff $$$$$
Warm wife: Priceless. - AllegroDNomadFor running an AC, get a Kill-A-Watt and check the voltage. If the voltage drops below 108, I would watch it closely. Below 105 and you shorten the life of the AC and maybe other items. Also, get a Progressive industries EMS. It will auto shut down your the line in at 104 and prevent damage.

Yup! Do it quite often. I have 2 - fifty footers and 3 twenty-five footers. I've used them all a few times.

Yes you can. Safely?? Depends. is it done? yes. safely? Haven't burned up yet. Would I do it? Yes I have, but would not advise anyone else to.
Yes, I get that. - Johno02ExplorerYes you can. Safely?? Depends. is it done? yes. safely? Haven't burned up yet. Would I do it? Yes I have, but would not advise anyone else to.

Two fifties and the 25 on the rig is getting pretty long especially if you are using heavy 120 volt loads like air conditioner and 120 volt water heater element. Light loads should not hurt!
Agreed.
150ft of 10 AWG has about 0.3ohm resistance. at 30 A that's about a 10V drop, so that's IMHO starting to push the limits. especially if voltage is low to start with. now add a few tenths for contac resistance. getting marginal. The other thing it is even more likely to give trouble with is starting loads for things like a AC. 50LRA now gives you 15V drop. so now your in double trouble, low voltage and high LRA trying to start a motor. NOT a good condition.
But if the loads are low not much of an issue. - Two fifties and the 25 on the rig is getting pretty long especially if you are using heavy 120 volt loads like air conditioner and 120 volt water heater element. Light loads should not hurt!
