30 amp extension cords

I see a 50 foot 30 amp extension cord at a local store. It has 10 gauge wire. Can I safely daisy chain 2 or 3 of those?

I have two 30A 25-foot extensions connected to my 25-foot cord coming from my trailer. Works good for the somewhat 75-feet of extension cord here at the house.

I would always keep checking the connections however to make sure they was making good connections and not getting hot on you...

Yes, sorry about that - I edited the message just now.

Of course you can, you just need to be aware of you're unloaded source voltage, cable length and gauge, load, and therefore total voltage drop. Here's a handy Voltage Drop Calculator that will provide the answers you need. I carry 140' of 10 gauge cable as runs to the campsite power post can be awfully long here in Ontario. No worries as long as you know what you're doing. ;)
  • By the time you go three I would sooner roll my own at the custom length you need if this will be a frequent stop. For heavy use consider #8 wire, for light usage #12 might be fine.

It would be iffy and you might find elevated temps or voltage drop at the connections if running a heavy load like AC.
If this were house wiring, you can run about 100' of 10 awg before you need to up the wire size.
