Common trip IIRC is for 240v or 120/240 service to a single outlet.
NEC requires a common trip breaker if using a shared neutral for two circuits. Common trip is also used for 240V circuits.
Wa8xm, "10/3" refers to 3 conductors plus ground. You don't count the ground as a conductor in NM or UF cable. So, 10/2 has black/white/bare ground, 10/3 has black/red/white/bare ground.
