3/4 or 1' butyl tape?

Ive never used it before. 3/4" seems most common. Does the 1" become a waste because it hangs over an edge and doesnt make contact anyway?

I had a lot of small leaks last winter. Need to seal pretty much everything. Water heater is first on the list. Also have to do every single window. I think good ole forest river used self leveling sealant on my windows. Because its been dripping out for years.

Also is there any reason to not buy white? Maybe less sticky? Turns brown anyway? I see white, gray, and black. My trailer trim is all white.
  • Do some choose non sag sealant instead? Could be more forgiving to changes in gap size.
  • The trick with butyl is not to fasten things down super tight. Better off to install the item a bit on the loose side and tighten it after a day or two.

Excess butyl can be peeled of, rolled in a ball and kept in an air tight container where it will remain pliable forever !

When installing my window I found that using wax paper made handling easer...
  • Buy white if your trim is white, I would go 1" because a little extra never hurt anything. The make other colors for different color trims, like houses.
  • Buy the width you need, just be sure it is butyl and not putty tape.
