If your main panel is actually a sub panel (powered from anywhere other than utility company) you need to separate your ground and neutral. The ground and neutral should only be bonded at the first panel from the utility company.
If you are using a sub panel, it would also need ground rods to your ground bar.
It works the other way but is not code and can be dangerous if you become a path to ground.
