50 amp plug

I leave the rig's end inside the compartment and stick the extension cord up through the opening. I do this so the cord body is out of the weather. It also deters extension cord from sprouting legs!

Another incorrect post!
A 50A RV outlet is EXACTLY THE SAME as a 50A household outlet (stove etc).
This is why it is better to have an electrician instal a 50a outlet vs a 30A RV one. Chances are they WILL get it right.

To the OP, cutting your current cord where convenient and adding a plug sounds like it would work for you. The rest of your cord, with a 50A outlet on the end, then becomes an extension.

Hi,

You have a really simple solution. Cut your cord so that it will just reach the ground when out of the RV. Then buy a RV plug and RV receptacle at your local hardware store. They are the same plug and cord end as the stove used everywhere in this country.

The plug is 4 wires. Black and red wires go to the brass terminals.

Green wire goes to the green terminal.

White wire goes to the silver screw terminal.

Pretty simple!

Because we have the same model and year of alpenlite I have wished for something different so I will ask this. Why not cut the 50 amp cord and put a 50 amp end so it will go down the same hole but be able to plug into the same cord with the opposite end . This would allow us to put the cord in the bed of the truck. Steve you have not used the trailer in cold weather like we have and it is very stiff when cold.

I have no problem taking it to our local guy I just didn't think it would be that difficult of a job! I definitely don't want to fry any components or myself so this winter I will take it in.

No good location to put the exterior wall outlet like newer rigs have (only j panel)...already considered that.

You can buy the conversion kit from a coupe of places... ETRAILER.COM and AMAZON has them. CAMPING WORLD as well...

Just be sure when looking on google to make sure you are looking at a 50A kit. They has the same kits for the 30A conversion as well...

If you are not an electrical type I would would go back back the RV DEALER and have them make the conversion for you.

This is not a good idea for your brother-inlaw or father-inlaw or friend to do the conversion for you. This must be wired for RV's and if wired like the house circuits etc you run the risk of blowing up a bunch of 120VAC appliances. Kinda hard to collect moneys from the family and friends. The commercial guys are insurance bonded for these things and should pay for what they blow up wiring it up wrong...
