50amp ----> 30amp adapter cord + 30mp surge guard

My 5er is 30amp. We are going to be staying at a park next year where I know our site has 50amp only, as they told me so. They said I would need a 50 --> 30 adapter. No problem, as I recently got one.

I normally use my Progressive Industries 30amp surge guard when I plug in. Should I, or should I not use it in conjunction with being plugged into a 50amp shore power post???

  • Brett nailed it.

    The 50 amp outlet is 220v. Your trailer runs on 110v, thus it uses only one of the two available legs of the circuit.
  • No problem using it. By the time power goes through the adapter, it will have the same configuration (SINGLE HOT, NEUTRAL and GROUND) as your 30 amp (dropping one of the 50 amp's hots).

    Yes, there will be more amps AVAILABLE, but you can not and will not be using them as your total draw will still be limited by your 120 VAC breaker panel's master breaker which is 30 amps.
  • Yes by all means use it. Will operate same as always protecting your RV.
