I've seen people buy those el cheapo ($1 or so at a dollar store) solar lights, pop off the top disc, then tack those on the inside of a window. Doesn't look that hot, but they do provide light.
I tend to use Sylvania "light flutes" which take some AAA batteries. They produce a decent amount of light, which is nice when I don't want to draw as little current from the battery bank as I possibly can help.
